DILI, 08 september 2021 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the meeting of the Council of Ministers, today, at the Ministry of Finance, had lifted the lockdown in the capital Dili.

The Minister of Presidency for the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães announced the decision at the press conference, following the conclusion of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, at the Ministry of Finance, in Aitarak laran Dili, today.

“After reviewing the presentation of the epidemiological situation of the country, given by the Coordinators of the Situation Room of the Integrated Centre for Crisis Management (CIGC), the Council of Ministers had decided to lift the lockdown measures in Dili, on september 9, 11:59 local time,” said Magalhães.

However, the government is extending, until 22 September, the sanitary fence in Baucau, Ermera Dili, and Covalima.

Due to the extension of the sanitary fence restrictions in the four municipalities (Baucau, Ermera Dili, and Covalima), therefore, the movement of people is limited and banned from entering and leaving these municipalities, except the double vaccinated citizens.

The government also had removed sanitary fence restrictions in Naimeko and Bobometo village in RAEOA.

The Council of Ministers called on citizens to keep practicing the health guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) to combat the Covid-19 and Delta variant in the country: “It is a must for all individuals to practice COVID safe measures, including wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, and maintaining social distance.

“Too all citizens, families, organizations, and the religious groups will have to collaborate with the government, by following the health guidelines in the combat against Covid-19 and prevent severe infections and deaths in the country. I call on citizens over 18 to get vaccinated as it is the only ammunition that we have right now to fight the Covid-19, said Magalhães.

He said the movement of transports, religious gatherings, and business activities are allowed to resume.
