SEEWAY-UNDP completed the first phase of YIP Program for 30 youths

DILI,19 october 2021 (TATOLI)—Supporting Entrepreneurship and Employment for Women and Youth (SEEWAY) with United Nation Development Program (UNDP) had succeeded to complete the first phase of the Youth Internship Program (YIP) for 30 youths to improve their work experience.

The YIP program is the program of the State Secretary for Vocational Training and Employment ( SEFOPE) and UNDP in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture (MHESC) to facilitate youth to develop their job skills.

UNDP’s SEEWAY Project Manager, Francelino Guterres said the 30 youth of graduates from universities have been completed their YIP program in Timor Leste to access the job opportunity.

“30 youths from Universities graduated had concluded their Internship program in Hospitality, tourism, financial management, accounting, and the other relevant skills courses, and today UNDP wishes to evaluate the challenges they’re faced during three months of training,” Francelino told reporters in Timor Plaza, Tuesday.

He said eleven institutions have been working with UNDP namely Mellenium Green Argo, Emera Ai-Kulat Mutin Organiku – EAMO, Timor-Leste Organic Fertilizer TILOFE, Nazareth Foundation, Permatil, Alianca Nacional Control Tabaco ANCT, JayMall, Mata Dalan Institute, Miniateriu Finance, Varaidame, Fundasaun Hadomi Timor.

From this YIP program, four youth had been recruited by the institutions to become the permanent staff.

“We are very grateful because with this program the four youths had already found the job,”

UNDP expected that the other 26 youths will find a job immediately.

Maria Isabel de Fátima, One of the graduates from the Dili Institute of Technology who was also graduates from the YIP program at the Mata Dalan Institute, thanked SEFOPE and UNDP for facilitating the three-month internship program for them to enhance their skills.

“This will help us to get a job because previously we have had enough experience, I appreciate the YIP ‘s program,” She said

There are 30 youths, consisting of 20 women and 10 men, who have successfully participated in the YIP’s program and received $100 from UNDP to support their activities for 3 months.
