COVALIMA, 28 october 2021 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak had officially launched the first onshore drilling for PSC TL-OT-17-08 in Feto Kmaus Well in Suai, Covalima.

With this official launching, Timor Resources as Operator with its joint venture partner TIMOR GAP Onshore Block A Unipessoal, Lda will begin the drilling of the Feto Kmaus well and followed by the Liurai well.

Timor Resources and its JV partner signed the respective PSC in 2017. According to the PSC Work Commitment, both operator and joint venture partner had undertaken G&G studies and seismic data acquisition throughout 2017 to 2018, and once the interpretation of the data and the result of the studies were completed in 2019, the Operator defined two drilling target locations for the PSC block TL-OT-17-08 in Covalima Municipality. These two wells are named Feto Kmaus and Liurai.

Throughout the drilling campaign, Timor Resources and its joint venture partner will ensure that the drilling will be performed following the HSE standards as well as oil and gas industry best practices.

The ANPM acting as the regulatory authority and representative of the Government of Timor-Leste will closely monitor and support the activities.

This drilling campaign is the first drilling campaign in the onshore area of Timor-Leste 50 years from the last well drilled in onshore Timor and the first well to be drilled in onshore Timor after Timor-Leste gained its Independence in 2002.

All historical wells in the onshore area of Timor-Leste were mostly drilled during the period between the 1960s and 1970s and showed potential for the onshore petroleum system. Therefore, with the upcoming Feto Kmaus drilling campaign, it is expected that the well will reach the respective plays in the targeted zones.

A commercial discovery in the onshore Timor-Leste will bring a greater benefit to the country and the Timorese people; it will also open up the door for further petroleum exploration in onshore Timor-Leste.
