DILI, 9 december, 2021 (TATOLI)- The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has prepared 12,600 bottles of indelible ink for the initial parliamentary elections to be held in Timor-Leste in January 2022.
UNDP Resident Representative in Timor-Leste, Munkhtuya Altangerel said UNDP had made full responsibility for procuring indelible ink for Timor-Leste.
“UNDP has identified eligible electoral ink in the procurement process. The ink meets the requirements after the UNDP COVID-Resilient Elections (CORE-TL) project conducted an Indelible Ink Test with the EMB, STAE and CNE,” said UNDP Resident Representative in Timor-Leste, Munkhtuya Altangerel to TATOLI at UN headquarters, on December 7, this Tuesday.
Altangerel said that UNDP had completed the process of procuring 12,600 bottles of inks and the CORE-TL project would deliver 12,600 bottles of electoral ink for the 2022 Presidential election to Timor-Leste in January.
“The ink is provided by the international company Global Firm and has just completed the procurement process with UNDP,”
The ink procurement cycle begins according to the government’s request and a cost-sharing agreement signed in March 2021.
“The Timor-Leste government provided $360,000 for the procurement of election ink,” said Altangerel.
It is known that Indelible ink is a marking system on the index finger of voters in an election. It has been used in more than 100 countries around the world, securing electoral transparency and strengthening the right to vote and democracy. Since the 2007 elections in Timor-Leste, UNDP has supported elections with indelible ink procurement as an effective security feature to prevent voters from casting multiple ballots.
