DILI, 02 february, 2022 (TATOLI)- East Timor Development Agency (ETDA) to rely on clay products for carving art on ceramic with innovative ideas.

This clay product will be presented at the World Skill Asia (WSA) competition, which will be held in Malaysia, in 2023.

The Director of ETDA, January Mok said EDTA is a development agency that was established in 2002.  An agency is providing life skill training for young people.

The World Skill Asia competition is an opportunity offered to promote young people’s skill, with creative and innovative ideas on some products.

“ETDA has relied on ceramic products from Timor-Leste. This is a unique product in the world that other countries do not have,” The Director of ETDA, January Mok told TATOLI, at ETDA’s restaurant, in Hudi Laran on 2 february, this wednesday.

He added that Timor-Leste has quality clay to produce ceramic. The raw materials were selected from Baucau and Maliana Municipalities.

The ceramic creation is made on innovative ideas with incredible art and painting. The product has been promoted at 70 international events around the world.

ETDA has sent the ceramic product to Australia, Indonesia, England, Italy, Vatican and others. The ceramic is also used for decoration for Royal ceremonies in Brunei Darussalam. It was also bought by Fidel Castro in Cuba.

The quality of ceramic products is made due to the good qualification of trainers. EDTA employs professional trainers. They have qualification on international experience, as they have joined for sharing training experience in France, before the country encounters covid-19, in 2019.

According to him, training subjects consist of Restaurant, Culinary, Hotel, Art, languages, welding and others. ETDA has qualified more hat 38.000 trainees in some different subjects since 2002 to 2022.

He acknowledged that the main challenge the ETDA faces is family financial support to encourage young children to take the course.

ETDA is considering so many people’s successes and giving a good impact for the socio- economy in Timor-Leste. Many people are skillful and working overseas, as in Australia, South Korea and even some in Europe.

Most young people just waste time and do not properly use the opportunity to gain life skills through training.

The parents do not provide financial support for young people to promote life skills.
