DILI, 08 february 2022 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport (MEJD) has officially launched the rehabilitation project of the 202 schools with 656 classrooms across the country.

The official launch of the project took place at the 28 de Novembro Technical School in Becora, Dili.

The official ceremony was launched by the Vice Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport, António Guterres with laying the foundation stone for the drilling of the water wall of 28 de Novembro Technical School.

Minister Guterres said that 16 of the 202 schools are located in the capital Dili, saying one of them was the 28 de Novembro Technical School in Becora, Dili.

He said 25% of the MEJD’s 2021 General State Budget (GSB), totaling US$111 million, was allocated for the rehabilitation project of the 202 schools.

“The rehabilitation of the 202 schools is expected to be concluded at the end of 2022,” Vice Minister Guterres told reporters after launching the rehabilitation project on tuesday.

At the same place, the principal of the 28 de Novembro Technical School, Pedro da Silva Ximenes said that a total of US$145.000 was allocated by MEJD for the rehabilitation of six classrooms and boundary walls as well as water well drilling of the school.

The 28 de Novembro Technical School has around 400 active students and 45 teachers.

He said the construction and rehabilitation of the boundary walls of the school would protect the schools from the abandoned animals of the communities and the communities themselves to enter the school area.
