The Candidates of President of the Republic will sign the Pact of National Unity

DILI, 15 february 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) José Belo, informed that the CNE will prepare a Pact of National Unity for all candidates of President of the Republic of Timor – Leste to be signed in the short term.

“CNE has prepared a declaration of the Pact National Unity for all presidential candidates to be signed by the candidate of President before starting a political campaign,” the President of CNE José Belo, told Tatoli at the CNE ‘s office, Colmera Dili, this tuesday.

The President of CNE explained that the purpose of signing the Pact of National Unity is done to the candidates of president to respect each other and not curse each other during the political campaign period which will take place from 02 of march to 15 of march.

The President of CNE added, the Pact of National Unity was also carried out to avoid the violence against the supporters of the presidential candidate to promote peace in Timor-Leste.

“We wish the quality of the Presidential Elections without discrimination from any party, therefore this Pact of National Unity will remind the presidential candidates to prioritize the peace, teach supporters to love each other and avoid insults during political campaigns because all the people of Timor – Leste wish to live in harmony,” President CNE said.

President of CNE, Belo, appealed to all presidential candidates to comply with all regulations of the National Unity Pact in order to ensure the presidential election which is democratic, transparent based on the human rights ‘s values ​​to promote peace in Timor-Leste.
