EU-EOM presents its preliminary report to President ‘Lú Olo’

DILI, 22 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM) in Timor-Leste presented its preliminary findings of the march 19 presidential election to the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo’.

The first findings of the European Union Election Observation Mission, headed by Domènec Ruiz Devesa, indicated that the presidential election was peaceful and competitive.

During the meeting, Domènec Ruiz Devesa conveyed to the President of the Republic the main findings of the preliminary report that EU-EOM made public just today on the development process of the presidential election.

“Basically, I told president ‘Lu Olo’ that the electoral bodies, STAE and CNE performed well in this election and the election was peaceful and competitive,” the head of EU-EOM, Domènec Ruiz Devesa, told reporters at the Palace of the President, in Dili, today.

Devesa said during the meeting President ‘Lú Olo’ thanked EU-EOM for what it has done so far during the presidential election.

At the meeting, President ‘Lú Olo’ said that democracy is an ongoing process that needed to be delivered for the people, adding democracy has to improve the lives of the Timorese people.

“Our mission has not finished, and we will remain in the country until the second-round of Timor-Leste’s presidential election is concluded,” he added.

He stressed that EU-EOM’s final report on the presidential election would be published two months after the result of the election of the second round on april 19 was concluded.
