Timor-Leste seeks to establish a new consulate in Northern Ireland

DILI,22 april 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste is seeking to establish a new consulate in Northern Ireland to provide services to Timorese citizens, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), Adaljiza Magno on Friday.

Magno also highlighted that the creation of a new consul in Northern Ireland is essential to protect the Timorese since it will also serve as the nearest consulate in London.

The Minister of MoFAC, Magno, said, her office will present a proposal concerning this matter to the Council of Ministers.

“The proposal will be taken to the National Parliament to allocate the funds after it gets approved by the Council of Minister”, said Magno.

following reports from the Guardian, There are no exact figures on the number of East Timorese living in the UK, however, estimates range between 5,000 and 20,000 with Oxford being home to the largest single community.
