Tasmania Farm Company will recruit 300 Timorese workers to work in Australia

DILI, 23 may 2022 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of Timor – Leste to Australia, Ines Almeida, informed that the owner of Tasmania farm will recruit 300 Timorese workers in July to work in Australia.

“I have received information from farm owners in Australia, Tasmania that, in July they will come to Timor – Leste to collaborate with the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE) to conduct the recruitment process for 300 Timorese workers to work in Tasmania, Australia ‘s farms in October 2022,” the Ambassador of Timor – Leste to Australia Ines Almeida, told TATOLI at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), Pantai Kelapa, Dili on this monday.

According to Mrs. Almeida, the seasonal working program had a significant change compared to the previous year. 

Almeida added that this year with the good coordination and cooperation between Australia and the Ambassadors from Vanuatu, Fiji, Timor-Leste, and other countries, the Government of Australia proposed the Pacific Labor Mobility Skills program with the implementation of a 4-year visa for the Foreign Minister of Australia (DFAT), and now the Australian Government has agreed on that program, and workers can work up to 4 years in Australia, compare to previous years, Australia only allowed the foreign workers stayed for 6-9 months.

“Timor – Leste is proud with the Embassy’s hard work in Australia, the Government of Australia can allow our workers to work in Australia for 4 years, we hope that, with this 4-year duration, the Timorese workers can work to save a lot of money, and can support their families, and also make the investment in Timor-Leste” she concluded.
