DILI, 25 may 2022 (TATOLI)-The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak extends his warmest congratulations to Australian Labor Party Leader Anthony Norman Albanese on his victory in the election as Australia’s 31st Prime Minister.

In a congratulatory letter addressed to the Australian Leader, the PM said, “I on behalf of the Government and People of Timor-Leste congratulate the election of Anthony Norman Albanese as the 31st Prime Minister of Australia,”

Prime Minister Matan Ruak reiterated “we share a historic relationship of fraternal friendship, based on the shared universal values ​​of peace, freedom, equality, and solidarity, as well as democracy, respect for human rights, multilateralism, and international cooperation at a very important time.”

“We need to come together to face the socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and climate change or the frequent natural disasters that plague our country,” the Prime Minister said in a statement released by the PM’s office.

At one point in the letter, the PM reminded with gratitude for Australia’s support in financial, technical, and human support to Timor-Leste to increase the country’s responsiveness and resilience, not only in preventing Covid-19 but also in various sectors, especially for economic diversification.

“Over the years we have received investments and benefited from collaboration in key sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, transportation, education, and professional training. Which is considered important for the diversification of our country’s economy, in the fields of agriculture and fisheries, tourism, industry, goods, and services,”

The PM added that Timor-Leste continues to need support from the Australian People and Government for a modern, sustainable, resilient, and prosperous nation, following Australia’s example and international best practices, to become a more active and productive company in the region and within the world.

The PM also emphasized that, as the two countries observed friendship over the years, He said, “We look forward to working with the New Australia’s Prime Minister for mutual benefit, in the expansion and deepening of the bonds of friendship that unite us,”
