President Horta and 28 ambassadors discuss diplomacy strategies for attracting foreign investment

DILI, 31 may 2022 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno, accompanied by 28 ambassadors of Timor-Leste, today, met with the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta to discuss diplomacy strategies for attracting foreign investors to Timor-Leste.

“During the meeting, we discuss with the President of the Republic about our diplomacy strategies to attract international investors to invest in the country,” Minister Magno told reporters after meeting President Horta, at the Palace of the President, on tuesday.

Magno said bringing foreign investors to Timor-Leste was crucial for economic diversification and economic growth.

“President Horta agreed with the idea of enhancing Timor-Leste’s diplomacy strategies to attract international investors to invest in the country and he also shared with the ambassadors regarding their diplomatic role in representing Timor-Leste overseas,” she said.

She said President Horta encouraged the ambassadors to perform well in their diplomatic mission to show Timor-Leste’s good image overseas.

During the meeting, Minister Magno also spoke with the President about the visit of China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Timor-Leste, on june 3.

Previously, Magno said that the Government of Timor-Leste and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi would sign four agreements, namely an air cooperation agreement, a cooperation agreement on health, and a cooperation agreement on supporting Timor-Leste state-owned TV (RTTL), and economic cooperation agreement focusing on agriculture development and clean water.
