DILI, 09 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste and Brunei Darussalam have signed Air Service Agreement (ASA) to allow the operation of the Brunei Darussalam commercial aircraft services to Timor-Leste.
The Air Services Agreement was signed by the Minister of Transport and Communications, José Agostinho da Silva and his Bruneian counterpart Pengiran Shamhary, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno, at Hotel Antarbangsa Rizqun, in Brunei Darussalam, on wednesday (06/06).
“This ASA is important to boost the air connectivity between Timor-Leste and other ASEAN countries in the region,” Minister Magno made the comments after returning from her diplomatic trips, at Dili’s Airport, today.
In september 2021, the Governments of Timor-Leste, through the Council of Ministers, approved a resolution on signing the ASA with Brunei Darussalam.
The diplomatic relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Timor-Leste has been established since may 20, 2002.
Magno said signing Air Service Agreement with various countries in the region, such as Brunei Darussalam, Australia, New Zealand, and so on will help to lower the airline ticket prices.
“For instance, after signing the ASA with Australia, now we can see a regular commercial flight operation of the Australian passenger aircraft in the country,” she said.
Last month, Timor-Leste also signed an Air Service Agreement with the New Zealand Government.
