LIQUISA, 14 september 2022 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s Tibar Port begins the first load with over 200 containers from Singapore, today, Executive Director of Tibar Port SA, Rafael Ribeiro has said.

Ribeiro explained that the port is ready to use shortly after it’s implanted.

“Today, we started the movement activities and 200 fully loaded containers were shipped from Singapore and the purpose of shipping was to try out the equipment system and test the performance of the authorities, including those working at the Tibar Port, to find out whether the port was ready to operate because on September 30 we will start full operation,” he said.

According to Riberio optimal handling capacity of a container port, is estimated to handle about 15 to 16 containers in a day and it can store about one million containers every year.

“But now we are starting with the same volume in the Dili Port because this is just the begining. So, this is to share the information and communicate to the world about the new port,” said Rafel Ribeiro.

It was stated that the ship carrying more than 200 containers from Singapore was from the Mariana Express Lines Pte.Ltd company.

The General Manager of Mariana Express Lines Pte.Ltd, Lee Chin Giaf was pleased that the ship from his company was the first to come to Timor-Leste and was able to load at the Tibar Port in good condition.
