DILI, 26 october 2022 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Health (MoH) planned to establish a cardiology center next year.
The center aimed to prevent Timorese patients from going to have cardiovascular disease treatment overseas, said Deputy Minister of Health, Bonifácio Mau Coli dos Reis.
“We are preparing to set up a space in Lahane for the installation of medical equipment so that we can start treatments and surgeries for heart problems next year,” Reis said in Dili.
He said MoH is preparing Timorese medical specialists and hiring professionals from iHEAL Medical Centre, Malaysia, to install the medical equipment.
“We have already sent our doctors abroad to further their studies in cardiology,” he said.
Reis said that the Ministry of Health had allocated US$500,000 for the purchase of medical equipment, saying the ministry had also planned to allocate US$1 million to continue acquiring the necessary medical equipment in 2023.
The ministry spends US$12 million annually on transferring patients to have medical treatment abroad.
