DILI,27 october 2022 ( TATOLI)– The President of the National Parliament of Timor – Leste, Aniceto Guterres Longinhos Lopes, met with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal Augusto Santos Silva, to discuss the development of a mobility agreement between people of Timor – Leste and Portugal.
Based on the statement from the National Parliament( NP)the two leaders discussed the strategic issues, as well as accelerated the agreement.
On this occasion, the President of the National Parliament Guterres thanked the Portugues Authorities for the support given to Timorese workers who are in a precarious situation in Portugal.
Previously, Timor – Leste handed over the ratification of the mobility agreement between county members to the executive Secretariat of the Community of Portugues Speaking Countries ( CPLP).
Mobility between CPLP country members is intended for doctors, business people, and academics (students and researchers) who will have diplomatic passports and service passports.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation ( MoFAC), Adaljiza Magno had said that the agreement intends to involve bilateral negotiation for example between Portugal and Angola to regularize the particular issues of each country regarding the movement of people from each member state.
The Government of Timor – Leste also wishes to establish a labor mobility agreement with the executive of Portugal, as has been implemented with Australia and South Korea. This agreement aims to mitigate the consequences of Timorese travel to Portugal without an employment contract that ensure a stay with the decent living condition.
