IFRC commits to support CVTL strategy plan for 2023

DILI, 23 november 2022 (TATOLI)— The International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) commit to support  Timor-Leste Red Cross (CVTL ) realizes its strategic plan for the upcoming year in 2023.

IFRC Country Cluster Delegate to Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, and Timor-Leste, Annisa Marezqa  said the IFRC is the world’s largest humanitarian network, consisting of 192 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working to save lives and promote dignity around the world.

“As an international organization we will always help our 192 international association’s members around the world including CVTL as one of the largest humanitarian organizations in Timor-Leste,” Annisa Marezqa said at the CVTL office, this Wednesday.

Marezqa added IFRC will assist CVTL both in strengthening organizational capacity, for disaster response and preparedness and ensuring that the national organization has a strong capacity and good resilience.

He explained that every year, IFRC always distributes funds engaged with the submission of proposals by Timor-Leste to the IFRC according to the strategic plan and priorities that will be developed, especially those that have a direct impact on the community.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of CVTL, Luis Pedro Pinto, said CVTL invites all representatives from all municipalities to discuss on the strategic plan before it submit  to IFRC.

“It depends on the budget that will be used next year, but the programs that we will implement are related to disaster risk management, health, youth and also developing branch organizations,” said Luis Pedro Pinto.

CVTL also observes the current situation regarding the high number of dengue fever and the ongoing pandemic. For such reason, CVTL will adapt the program to the Government’s priorities, especially the Ministry of Health.

Previously in 2020 and 2021, Timor-Leste also received financial support from the Empress Shôken Fund named after the Empress of Japan.

CVTL has received a total amount of 16 million Swiss Francs. The money supports projects undertaken by the IFRC to benefit their communities in various process.

The fund cover 28 applications of  wide rage of humanitarian projects carried out by the National Societies in every region in the world in 2021.

The IFRC has allocated a total of 475,997 Swiss francs for 16 projects in Argentina, Bahamas, Benin, Costa Rica, Estonia, Georgia, Iran, Kenya, Malawi, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, South Sudan, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

So far in 2020 the Fund also covered 36 applications for wide range of humanitarian projects carried out by National Societies in every region in the world.

The IFRC allocated a total of 400,160 Swiss francs for 14 projects in Argentina, Bulgaria, Greece, Iraq, Lithuania, Montenegro, Namibia, Palestine, Panama, Sierra Leone, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uganda.
