DILI, 14 december 2022 (TATOLI)– The National Youth Development Agency (JDN-Tetum) offers tour guide training to Timorese youth to become tour guides in Timor-Leste.
Project Coordinator, Tinesia Perreira dos Santos said, since the training was offered, JDB began offering training to 25 Timorese youths to qualify as tour guides.
“We provide capacity building for 25 Timorese youths to be prepared to guide international tourists visited in Timor-Leste, and 25 tour guides have experience guiding over 200 tourists” Tinesia Pereira dos Santos told Tatoli at her office in Metiaut, Dili.
Santos said, besides providing tour guide training, they also provided English language training, Ethics training, and communication training as well as providing some historical background on Timor-Leste’s memorial places and tourist attractions.
“This training is offered to 25 participants so that more knowledge can be shared with tourist visitors,”
He said the places often visited by tourists were memorial sites across Dili as well as other municipalities.
“Most recently in 2022, JDN has organized 66 tour activities, activities consisting of visiting historical places; Santa Cruz Cemetery, Timor-Leste Resistance Museum, CNC, and other memorial sites across the country,” She said.
In the same place, Tour Trainer from Baucau City, Jescia Nelinha Da Silva Ximenes said, the history they prepared for the visitors was the history of Timor Leste’s resistance including the involvement of women during the struggle for independence, such as Rosa Bonaparte Soares, Maria Isabel, Rosa Marçal, Jozefa Adaun Da Silva and others.
In addition, JDN also provides transportation and snacks for tourists worth 35 USD.
So far, tourists visiting Timor Leste consist from various countries, including Australia, Switzerland, the United States, Portugal, Germany, and others.
