Peace Corps volunteers to work in community economic development and English teacher training

DILI, 21 december 2021 (TATOLI) – The Country Director of the Peace Corps, Jamie Fouss said the return of the Peace Corps volunteers would be working on two projects – Community Economic Development and English Teacher Training. 

Twenty-five Peace Corps Volunteers will arrive in Timor-Leste on january 22, 2023. 

“We will have peace corps volunteers return to Timor-Leste after pretty much of three years hiatus. Our volunteers will work on two projects – Community Economic Development and English Teacher Training,” Fouss told reporters after meeting the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, at the Presidential Palace, today. 

He said that the 25 volunteers will be assigned to Liquiça, Bobonro, Manatuto, and Ermera: “These volunteers will live with the communities. They will live with host families who will help them learn Timorese languages and culture.” 

“We will also have another group coming in october 2023. We hope to place them in other municipalities,” Fouss said. 

Fouss appreciated the international and national volunteers for their dedication and hard work in contributing to improving the lives of communities in Timor-Leste. 

“It is wonderful to see people who are dedicated to helping this country improve. I am inspired every day to see so many enthusiastic and hardworking people coming up with really good ideas to help the people of Timor-Leste,” he said.

Fouss thanked President Horta for his continuous support of the Peace Corps Program: “Our volunteers will look forward to serving in Timor-Leste.”
