DILI, 22 december 2022 (TATOLI)- PRADET through “Fatin Hakmatek” recorded more than 393 victims of women and girls in four municipalities who experienced domestic violence in 2022.
PRADET Program Coordinator, Luisa dos Reis Marçal said this number was registered by Pradet from January to December 2022.
“We have registered more than 393 victims of domestic violence in 2022 including women and girls. The forms of violence they experience are sexual violence, neglect, and family violence,” said the Coordinator of the PRADET Program Fatin Hakmatek at DILI, Luisa dos Reis Marçal to TATOLI at Perumnas, Thursday.
According to Marcal, more acts of violence are triggered by the lack of family finances and the abuse of social media.
“The main cause of the outbreak of domestic violence that befell these victims is largely due to the lack of family economic income and also the misuse of technology platforms such as mobile phones, while another cause is the involvement of family members in husband and wife conflicts which ultimately supported them to divorce,” she explained.
With all the problems faced by the victims, PRADET Fatin Hakmatek, in collaboration with Alfela, the Public Prosecutor, and the VPU police decided to provide legal assistance to the victims.
“We also provide humanitarian assistance to victims in the small grant category to support them in doing business and empowering women’s economy, including offering some counseling,” she explained.
Regarding the problems faced by these women, Marçal appealed to women who have suffered and experienced the same acts of violence, to report their problems to the relevant authorities including PRADET to find solutions.
“You don’t need to worry about reporting this problem to seek legal assistance to solve your problem because you are a victim of any form of domestic violence,” She concluded.
Marcal said, in 2022 the data recorded by PRADET shows, four women were victims of neglect, one victim of human trafficking, 115 and nine men women experienced domestic violence and physical violence, seven women experienced physiological violence, and 18 women experienced sexual violence, 107 women and one man experienced more than one form of violence, 19 women and 11 men experienced physical violence, while 101 women experienced sexual violence and domestic violence.
According to data, these victims came from four municipalities consisting of Dili, Ermera, Aileu, Liquica, and Liquica.
“In the future, we plan to cover up to the municipality of Atauro,” she said.
