DILI, 25 january 2023 (TATOLI) – Director General for Asia Pacific and African Affairs of Indonesia, Abdul Kadir Jailani met with the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, at the Presidential Palace, to discuss strategies to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Timor-Leste, especially in the field of economic cooperation.
Jailani said that the Indonesian Government intends to accelerate the Free Trade Zone cooperation with the Timor-Leste Government.
“We propose to Timor-Leste a Bilateral Investment Treaty and we want to accelerate the establishment of the Free Trade Zone in the border that will advance economic relations between the two countries,” Jailani said after meeting President Horta at the Presidential Palace.
He said it is necessary to ensure the acceleration of the establishment of the free trade area cooperation: “We hope that we can finalize it in the future.”
It is recalled that the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidélis Magalhães, met last year with a delegation from Indonesia to discuss the establishment of the Free Trade Zone in the border area between the two countries.
