DILI, 27 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta has urged the electoral management bodies both the Technical Secretariat for Election Administration (STAE) and the National Elections Commission (CNE) to work professionally in the upcoming General Elections.
Horta made the comments on a visit to the STAE office where he encouraged STAE and the CNE to organize a fair election in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Horta reiterated that ensuring a free and fair election is crucial to gaining the public’s trust in the electoral management bodies.
“I urged both electoral bodies not to fall prey to political manipulation in the upcoming general elections. They need to carry out their work independently and professionally to gain the public’s trust in the country,” Horta told reporters after a meeting with CNE and STAE, in Dili.
The Head of State also praised STAE and CNE for their good performance in past elections.
Horta emphasized that the upcoming parliamentary will be held peacefully, saying there will be no problems with the May 21 elections,” Horta added.
Horta said that he will analyze the Fifth Amendment to the Electoral Law for the National Parliament.
