DILI, 11 april 2023 ( TATOLI)- The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports ( MoYES ) and the National Trade Bank of Timor – Leste ( BNCTL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) to manage the education infrastructure budget in 14 municipalities across Timor-Leste.
The Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, Armindo Maia said, the signing of the MoU with BNCTL was to conduct the management of the education infrastructure budget from the 2023 State Budget to ensure financial transparency in Timor Leste.
“We have around $15 million to build 117 school buildings in the national territory, which will be built by the community in every municipality, therefore MoEYS is collaborating with the BNCTL State Bank to manage payments after the school infrastructure project is completed,” Maia, told reporters at MoEYS office, Vilaverde Dili, Tuesday.
Maia added that the signing of this MoU would accelerate the educational infrastructure process in Timor-Leste.
“We will accelerate education infrastructure because based on the CNA Law, a budget of under $100,000 can be managed independently by the ministry, therefore the signing of the MoU with BNCTL will accelerate education infrastructure projects shortly,” he said.
In the same place, Acting Director of BNCTL, Alcino Monteiro said BNCTL as the State Bank is committed to managing the State Budget to ensure transparency in project implementation.
“BNCTL has branches in all municipalities, therefore by signing the MoU with MoEYS, we will work together to open individual accounts for communities running educational infrastructure projects in Timor-Leste,” he concluded.
Based on the plan, MoEYS will launch the groundbreaking of an education infrastructure project, in the Municipality of Bobonaro on April 17 as a symbol of the start of 117 new education infrastructure projects in Timor-Leste.
