Ataúru, may 09, 2023 (TATOLI)- The acting director of the Ministry of Public Work (MoPW) in Ataúru municipality, Bonifácio Soares, said the Ministry of Public Works identified two main problems causing water shortages for local communities in Ataúru at this time.
“The people of Ataúru do not have regular access to clean water due to two main challenges including lack of springs in Atauru and the damaged to water pipes caused by the rain or landslides,” Acting Director of MoPW in Ataúru municipality, Bonifácio Soares told Tatoli at his office, Vila Mau Meta, this Tuesday.
According to Soares, Atauro has three main water sources, in Makadade and Maquili villages but the volume will decrease during the long dry season.
“We have two main water reservoirs to store water before distributing to communities in four villages, but during the long dry season we face water shortages, therefore the MoPW has set a water distribution schedule, where each village will have access to clean water within two hours,”
Soares said, with the challenges they face, the Ministry of Public Work is working hard to meet the community’s need to access clean water: “We are also taking alternatives to work with local companies to have water drilling projects and rainwater harvesting systems. We want to make sure all residents in Ataúru have access to clean water during the long dry season,”
“We also have small springs located in Berao, Tulai, Eclae, and Erhutak, so we are working with the community to store water in water storage tanks to prepare it for summer to ensure a sustainable water supply for the community,” he added.
At the same time he said, the Minister of Public Works through the company Bee TL (BTL) will have further coordination in water management in Atauro with available funds provided by the Department of Clean Water and Sanitation of about $1,000 for water conservancy.
Meanwhile, more than 10,000 residents of Ataúru have access to clean water within two hours a day.
