DILI, 19 june 2023 ( TATOLI)-Australia’s Market Development Facility (MDF) and the Dive Operators Working Group (DOWG) will launch a new dive map of Timor-Leste.
This initiative aims to promote the country’s renowned natural beauty and vibrant marine life, enhancing Timor-Leste’s position as a diving destination.
The dive map highlights some of the best diving locations in Timor-Leste, inviting divers to embark on exciting underwater explorations.
Divers can anticipate unforgettable encounters with rich marine life, including tropical fish, turtles, and vibrant and healthy coral reefs.
Therefore this collaboration between MDF and the DOWG is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable tourism development in Timor-Leste, including responsible diving practices and the conservation of the country’s marine environment.
Drew Johnson, MDF Country Director said Snorkeling and diving on bio-diverse reefs are among the top reasons for visiting Timor-Leste: “MDF is pleased to work with DOWG to protect and promote marine tourism, including the creation of this diving map. We hope to see more international tourists visiting Timor-Leste in the coming years,” said Drew Johnson, MDF Country Director.
Also, Kate Barker, a member of the DOWG from Dreamers Dive Academy, said collaborating on this project together, as a local industry rather than just operators, provides a firm foundation for consistency in the dive sites.
“It ensures that if more dive centers open in the future, the sites are already known to all by the same name. It’s a key element for locals and tourists to know where they can dive or where they have dived, especially in relation to other divers or posts they see on social media. It allows people to discover a wide range of options of sites that Timor-Leste dive operators can offer,” said Kate Barker, a member of the DOWG from Dreamers Dive Academy.
The launch of the dive map serves as a highlight of Timor-Leste’s growing marine tourism industry.
Diving operators, travel agencies, and adventure seekers can now explore and discover the hidden gems of Timor-Leste’s underwater world. The DOWG will utilize the map in its marketing campaigns to attract new divers to Timor-Leste. Both print and digital versions of the map are available at local tourism offices, dive centers, and here.
The Dive Operators Working Group (DOWG) is a collaborative network of dive operators in Timor-Leste, dedicated to promoting sustainable diving practices and enhancing the diving experience in the country. The group includes Aquatica Dive Resort, Atauro Dive Resort, Beloi Beach Hotel, Compass Timor-Leste, Dive Timor Lorosae, Dreamers Dive Academy, and Reverse Free Diving.
