DILI, 22 june 2023 ( TATOLI)- The Non Governmental Organizations ( NGOs ) today held a dialogue with International donators to strengthen the cooperation in Timor – Leste.
Director of Forum Organization of Timor – Leste ( FONGTIL), Valentim da Costa Pinto, said the dialogue between NGOs and International donators is conducted to strengthen the cooperation for supporting the donation to the NGOs ‘ s priority program in handling the social phenomena in Timor – Leste.
” The NGOs in Timor – Leste have many priority programs such as the implementation project on water and sanitation in rural areas, empowering the farmers to increase food security, the program of gender equality, education, health, justice, and others. Hence this dialogue is conducted to share the idea amongst the donators and Local NGOs to strengthen cooperation to implement its program to overcome the social phenomena in Timor – Leste,” the Executive Director of NGO FONGTIL Valentim Pinto told reporters at Hotel Timor, Colmera Dili on thursday.
Pinto explained currently some Local NGOs in Timor – Leste had received the donation from international partners namely from United States Agency for Development (USAID), European Union (EU), United Nations Development Fund ( UNFPA) United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP) Embassies and the other International donators in Timor Leste.
“Durig the dialogue all the Representative of NGOs in Timor will have the opportunity to share the reciprocal idea to the interest of NGOs,” he said.
Likewise, The Executive Director of LUTA Hamutuk, José da Costa Monteiro highlighted this dialogue as a very important event because a representative from a local NGO in Timor -Leste will have an opportunity to deliver its difficulties to the donators.
” We hope this dialogue will accumulate our difficulties and continue to support the NGO in Timor – Leste by facilitating the budget to run the priority program which is implemented by NGOs to overcome the social phenomena in Timor – Leste,” he said
At the same place, the Representative of the European Union in Timor – Leste, Karla Leitzke, outlined the willingness of the EU to support the financial the NGOs in Timor – Leste and asked the NGO to identify the priority program inside the proposals to be submitted to the EU in Timor – Leste.
So far, FONGTIL recorded over 500 NGOs existed in Timor – Leste but currently the NGOs still exist in Timor – Leste, of the number only 200 NGOs remain while the rest collapsed due to financial problems.
“Hopefully the Government of Timor – Leste and the international partner will continue to support financially in order for the NGOs can exist to control the social issue and to overcome the social phenomena in Timor – Lestem,”
