South Korea commits to provide capacity building for students in STV

DILI, 08 august 2023 (TATOLI) – The South Korean Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Shin Mantaek, accompanied by the National Director of the South Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Eunju Cha, met with the Minister of Education, Dulce de Jesus, to discuss the future cooperation in the field of training human resources, especially students of Technical-Vocational Secondary Education (ESTV).

“The assistance that has been provided by the Korean Government in the education sector was discussed, especially the printing of books for students, as well as the support to students of the Technical-Vocational Secondary Education-Industry Technology Group (ESTV-GTI), in Becora”, Minister of Education, Dulce de Jesus told reporters in Vila-Verde, Dili.

“Ambassador of South Korea hopes that the Ministry of Education (MoE) will continue to guarantee the operation of the ESTV-GTI, as currently, the South Korean volunteers are training students at this establishment in Korean language, art, and related training skill in Timor -Leste,” She said.

The South Korean Ambassador also said that the meeting served to identify the needs of the South Korean Executive to support the MoE for the coming years.

“We are going to carry out a plan to help train Timorese human resources. Education is one of the factors that contribute to the success of South Korea, so we want to share this experience with Timor-Leste”, he stressed.

Ambassador also highlighted the importance of training provided including Korean language and culture training for young Timorese to provide job opportunities and scholarships in South Korea.

Meanwhile, 30 students of the Becora, Technical Vocational School had benefited from the program of Korean language training and currently had worked in South Korea.
