AIFAESA conducts food inspections to ensure the quality of foods provided in supermarkets

DILI, 29 august 2023 (TATOLI)- Food, Economy Sanitary Inspections (AIFAESA) carried out domestic inspections in a few supermarkets across Dili to ensure food quality and food quantity.

General Inspector AIFAESA, Ernesto Monteiro said the purpose of  inspection activity in three was to identify the quantity and the quality of foods in the supermarkets.

“We are here today to conduct the inspection to find out the rice weight since some residents perception of quantity is not based on the number on the rice bags,’’ General Inspector AIFAESA, Ernesto Monteiro told Journalists in Maymart shop, Audian, Tuesday.

He added during the inspection activity, AIFAESA teams also weighed foods to ensure food quantity.

“We identify all the weighing scales used by the owner of the shop fulfilled international standards. We observed that the weight of rice in the rice bags is still in the right kg. So We did not find any error for rice quality,’’ He said

There are no huge differences in real quantity, at least minus 20 grams only and there are some qualities over 150 grams of rice, but it is considered as normal standard quality.

He added that AIFAESA recognized that currently, it is unstable food prices in the market. Thus, the impact on food prices is a slight increase due to climate change hitting the rice supplier country.

In the same place, Maymart supermarket manager, Daniel Samuel said Maymart shop always controls the food quality and quantity before resellers in the supermarket.

“We have inspection activity was focused on rice quality and also some food qualities such as vegetables, meat, chicken, noodles, fruits, and others. We also make sure of hygiene foods to be commercializing and protect consumer rights,” He concluded.

The food inspection activity was carried out in three supermarkets composed of ALFA DILI, W4, and Maymart.
