DILI, 09 may 2024 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste announced that it would allocate land to a number of countries for the construction of their embassies in Dili.
India, France, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Austria, the United Kingdom, and Singapore had shown interest in establishing embassies in Timor-Leste.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito Freitas, announced that the government is identifying land so that it can be made available for the construction of the embassies: “We are coordinating with the Secretary of State for Land and Property to identify the most suitable spaces for those countries to establish their embassies.”
Freitas stressed the importance of establishing diplomatic relations with these countries, saying by the end of this year all the land will be identified.
Previously, in a meeting with the Head of State, Jose Ramos Horta, French President Emmanuel Macron, expressed interest in establishing an embassy in Timor-Leste to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Indian Foreign Minister, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, also expressed the same interest when he met with Horta last year.
