DILI, 09 july 2024 (TATOLI) – The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) of Timor-Leste, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, held a bilateral meeting with his Angolan counterpart, Téte António, to discuss the future of cooperation in important sectors and also to follow up on the three agreements signed.
The meeting was held at the office of the Angolan Foreign Ministry, on the sidelines of the state visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, and his delegation to Angola.
During the discussion, the two sides agreed that the governments of Timor-Leste and Angola would form a joint commission involving a technical team from ministerial lines to discuss issues such as petroleum, tourism, agriculture, and human resources training, among others. Thus, when the discussion is finalized, the joint commission will decide to make its scheduling plan.
Freitas said that President Horta’s state visit to Mozambique and Angola is an act to reopen and strengthen Timor-Leste’s relations with the two countries.
Angola’s modern development, in the first place, can become a reference for Timorese technicians through their joint commission, so that they can work better to promote development for the welfare of the people and the nation.
Meanwhile, three agreements that Minister Bendito Freitas recently signed with his Angolan counterpart, Téte António, on 8 july, were on Diplomatic Policy Consultation, a cooperation agreement between the “Venâncio de Moura” Angola Diplomatic Academy and the East Timor Centre for Diplomatic Studies, as well as a memorandum of understanding on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic service passports between the two countries.
