DILI, 18 july 2024 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta awarded the prestigious Medal of Merit to Alba Cecilia Garzon, Country Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Timor-Leste. The ceremony took place at the WFP Country Office in Dili.
The Medal of Merit recognizes Mrs. Garzon’s outstanding contributions to Timor-Leste’s development, particularly in the areas of food security, nutrition, and social protection.
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades across various continents, Mrs. Garzon has held pivotal roles in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Malawi, and various countries in Latin America and Africa, where she has managed complex humanitarian responses and implemented sustainable development initiatives.
As WFP Country Representative in Timor-Leste, Garzon has positioned the organization as a key partner in governmental and development initiatives, spearheading innovative programs crucial to the nation’s progress. Her efforts have significantly strengthened the partnership between Timor-Leste and the World Food Program.
President Ramos-Horta stated, “Garzon’s work exemplifies the spirit of international cooperation and dedication to improving the lives of our citizens.”
