PM Gusmão encourages Timorese students in Portugal to contribute to Timor-Leste’s development

DILI, 14 october 2024 (TATOLI)—Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão encouraged Timorese students to dedicate themselves well to their studies, gaining experience and knowledge so that when they return home, they can contribute to the national development of Timor-Leste.

Prime Minister Gusmão was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MFAC), Bendito dos Santos Freitas, in a meeting with Timorese students in Portugal to discuss their studies in Portugal.

This meeting was held as part of the Prime Minister’s official visit to Portugal to further strengthen diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Xanana Gusmão encouraged students to dedicate themselves well to their studies, gaining experience and knowledge so that one day they can contribute to the national development of Timor-Leste when they return to Timor-Leste.

The Head of Government asked the Timorese to continue promoting Timor-Leste in the world because, as Timorese, they have the responsibility to serve the nation and the people with whatever work they do, always preserving the principle and identity of Timoreses.

On the same occasion, the students also asked the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, to emphasize key priorities, such as education, health, basic infrastructure, and others, because these are areas directly related to the people’s real lives.

Meanwhile, at this meeting, the Prime Minister was accompanied by members of the government, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jorge Serano, the ambassador of Timor-Leste to Portugal, Isabel Guterres, and the Secretary General of UCCLA, Vitor Manuel Sampaio Caetano.
