DILI, 14 december 2025 (TATOLI) – It was with deep regret that Timor-Leste received news of the passing of Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and winner of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, on december 29, 2024.
Jimmy Carter died peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, on monday signed the book of Condolences at the Embassy of the United States of America for the death of the former President of America, Jimmy Carter.
The People and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor have received with great consternation and grief the news of the passing away of the former President of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter after a longer period under health care.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, on behalf of the IX Constitutional Government of Timor-Leste, wishes to extend our sincere and deepest heartfelt condolences to the Family and the People of the United States of America for the loss of this great man and extraordinary leader.
Jimmy Carter was the longest-living President of America, a statesman and a humanitarian and one of the best ex-President who among others fought for corruption, world peace, advancing democracy and human rights and promoting free and fair elections.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the people of the United States. May his soul be welcomed to heaven! Our sincere condolences,” declared Minister Bendito.
