DILI, 24 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament (PN) today unanimously approved a vote of thanks to Papal Nuncio to Timor-Leste, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, for his exceptional service in strengthening the bonds between the Vatican and Timor-Leste.
Since arriving in the country in 2019, Monsignor Sprizzi has dedicated himself to strengthening the historical ties between the Holy See and Timor-Leste.
The Parliament praised Sprizzi for his support of the local Church, his promotion of inter-religious dialogue, and his concrete actions in education and social services.
The Secretary of the National Parliament, Virginia Ana Belo, said that Sprizzi encouraged the creation of comprehensive education programs, and promoted efforts to combat scourges such as youth violence.
She said that during his mission, Sprizzi helped Timor-Leste establish the Apostolic Nunciature in Dili, the Timorese Catholic University (UCT), and the Ecclesiastical Court.
Monsignor Sprizzi is one of the key figures who made crucial contributions to the successful preparation of Timor-Leste for Pope Francis’s historic visit to the country from September 9 to 11, 2024.
