DILI, 09 July 2025 (TATOLI) – Timorese taekwondo athletes are training for the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) Games, which will take place from July 17 to 27 in Dili.
“We have four taekwondo athletes. Preparations began in February, but training only started in May. Female athletes must weigh between 46 and 49 kilograms, while male athletes must weigh between 51 and 55 kilograms,” coach King Ki Tar told Tatoli.
He explained that the athletes train twice a day. The first session starts at 6 a.m., and after attending school in the afternoon, they return for evening training at 6 p.m.
In addition to preparing for the competition, the athletes are also studying for their second-term exams, which take place next week.
“There’s not much time left before the games begin. Despite the fatigue, preparations are going well. Based on their dedication during training, I believe they will perform well,” King said.
The CPLP Games include various sports such as handball, athletics, para-athletics, basketball, football, tennis, and beach volleyball. The competition began in 1992 in Portugal and has since held 11 editions—two each hosted by Portugal, Cape Verde, Angola, and Mozambique, and one each by Guinea-Bissau, Brazil, and São Tomé and Príncipe. The last edition of the CPLP Games was in 2018 in São Tomé and Príncipe.
