DILI, 07 August 2025 (TATOLI) – President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta, welcomed the Australian Special Envoy for Southeast Asia, Nicholas Moore AO, at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.
Moore is visiting Timor-Leste to participate in the second Timor-Leste–Australia Economic and Business Conference (TLAUCON 2025), held from August 6–8 at the Dili Convention Center.
The conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Timor-Leste and Australia, underscores the deepening economic collaboration between the two nations.
The meeting with President Ramos-Horta reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Timor-Leste and Australia, particularly in fostering economic cooperation and sustainable development.
President Ramos-Horta expressed Timor-Leste’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in Southeast Asia while acknowledging Australia’s continued support in the nation’s development journey.
“Timor-Leste and Australia share a bond forged through history and common aspirations. As we prepare to join ASEAN, Australia’s partnership remains vital in advancing our nation’s development and regional integration,” said President-Ramos-Horta.
Timor-Leste and Australia share a long-standing friendship, strengthened by strong people-to-people connections.
Since Timor-Leste’s independence in 2002, Australia has remained its largest development and security partner. The two nations are actively pursuing cooperation in various sectors, including Development, Economic diversification, the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme, major infrastructure projects, Education, Security and Defense, People to people connections, Support for Timor-Leste’s WTO membership and ASEAN accession.
