DILI, 27 October 2025 (TATOLI) – The Hadomi Timor Foundation (FHT), in partnership with Asia Centre, held a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Digital Security and Facilitation Skills from October 27 to 28 at Yayasan HAK, Dili.
The program aimed to build the capacity of digital rights activists in cybersecurity, data protection, and facilitation skills for community outreach.
Asia Centre’s Kartini Sunityo and FHT trainers Abrao Monteiro “Nicho Linux” and Jose Alfredo Martins led the sessions, which were attended by representatives from civil society groups, disability organizations, and legal institutions.
FHT Executive Director Abrao Monteiro said the training was part of efforts to strengthen the national network of digital rights defenders.
“Our goal is to form a network of trainers and activists who can share knowledge about digital security within their communities,” he said.
Asia Centre’s Kartini Sunityo said digital literacy is key to protecting human rights and freedom of expression in the digital era.
“Technology is created by humans. It’s not technology that is wrong, but how we use it,” she said.
The Asia Foundation’s Deputy Country Representative, Heidi Arbuckle, said the initiative supports Timor-Leste’s digital transformation after joining ASEAN.
“Digital transformation brings many opportunities but also new challenges. It’s important that we all understand how to stay safe online,” she said.
The training covered online safety, data protection, and facilitation techniques, aiming to expand digital literacy and strengthen local trainers’ networks across Timor-Leste.
