DILI, 27 November 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta, is closely following recent developments in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau with deep concern, and with an unwavering commitment to the principles of peace, rule of law, and constitutional order. Timor-Leste and Guinea-Bissau share longstanding ties of friendship and history, strengthened further through our mutual membership in the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the g7+.

As a nation that has also travelled toward peace, stability, and democratic consolidation, Timor-Leste believes deeply in the importance of resolving political tensions through constitutional processes and peaceful engagement.

Guinea-Bissau holds the rotating Presidency of the CPLP, a role that carries the responsibility of upholding the organisation’s core values of cooperation, solidarity, and constructive engagement among Lusophone nations. President Ramos-Horta expresses confidence that the country’s institutions and leaders will act in a manner that reinforces stability and the unity of the CPLP community.

Reflecting on these recent developments, President Ramos-Horta stated:

“At this moment, I call on all leaders and institutions in Guinea-Bissau to place national interest above all else, to reject any form of violence, and to uphold the constitutional order that safeguards the will of the people. The election process must be protected. I urge all parties to await the official election results and to work together for peace and stability.”

Timor-Leste stands firmly with its CPLP brother nation and with all partners committed to peace and stability in Guinea-Bissau. We are ready to support, alongside the CPLP and broader international community, any diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring calm, safeguarding constitutional order, and ensuring the wellbeing of the Guinean people.
