DILI, 23 december 2025 (TATOLI) — President José Ramos-Horta has called on the people of Timor-Leste to strengthen national unity, compassion, and peace as he delivered his Christmas message to the nation, reflecting on the country’s journey and hopes for the year ahead.
In his message, the President extended warm wishes to all citizens, saying, “As the gentle peace of Christmas descends upon our nation, I extend my warmest and most heartfelt wishes to each and every one of you. May this season bring you peace, joy, and enduring hope.”
President Ramos-Horta described Christmas as a sacred moment rooted in the message of light, peace, and love, values he said strongly resonate with Timor-Leste’s own history.
“We are a nation that has long walked through the night, guided by the light of faith and an unwavering hope for a better dawn,” he said, adding that the future of the country must continue to be built together.
Reflecting on 2025, the President said Timorese people had faced challenges with resilience while making progress through unity.
“As your President, my greatest Christmas prayer is for that national unity and lasting peace to be our unwavering foundation,” he said.
He encouraged citizens to embody the true spirit of Christmas by reaching out to those in need, welcoming others with open hearts, and supporting the most vulnerable members of society.
Addressing children, elders, and families, President Ramos-Horta highlighted their central role in the nation’s future and identity.
“You are our greatest gift and our future,” he said, speaking to children, while urging respect and love for elders who carry the nation’s wisdom.
The President also offered special prayers for those facing hardship, including the sick, the struggling, and families grieving the loss of loved ones.
“May they find comfort in the embrace of their community and renewed strength in the hope this season represents,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, President Ramos-Horta called on citizens to carry forward the light of Christmas in pursuit of justice, compassion, and sustainable development.
“Together, let us continue building a Timor-Leste where every citizen can thrive in dignity and peace,” he said.
The message concluded with a wish for a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
“I wish you all a Christmas filled with the profound peace of Christ, and a New Year of 2026 abundant with health, prosperity, and shared success,” the President said.
