DILI, 20 January 2026 (TATOLI) – The State Secretariat for Social Communication (SECOMS) organized Media Tour 2026 last week in Bali, Indonesia. This initiative promotes working visits and exchanges with foreign media outlets, aiming to strengthen the professional capabilities of Timorese journalists and national media institutions.
The program included participation from ten national media outlets and forms part of the IX Constitutional Government’s strategy to provide learning opportunities and foster experience-sharing with international media, particularly in response to the challenges posed by media convergence and digital transformation.
Secretary of State for Social Communication Expedito Loro Dias Ximenes stated that Media Tour 2026 seeks to broaden the horizons of Timorese journalists through direct observation of media management practices in Bali. He emphasized the importance of adaptation strategies to ensure sustainability, credibility, and relevance in a rapidly evolving global media environment.
He further noted that the initiative serves as an instrument of media diplomacy, creating opportunities for cross-border professional cooperation in a context increasingly marked by disinformation, polarization, and declining public trust in the media.
During the visit, Timorese journalists were welcomed by staff at Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Denpasar and also toured the Bali Post, where they learned about editorial management practices, business organization, and content development strategies in the digital era.
Journalists from the following outlets participated in Media Tour 2026: Jornal Independente, Timor Post, STL, Tatoli, IP (Timor-Leste’ news agency), RTTL, EP, SMNews, GMN TV, VIP TV, Dili Post, and SapNews.
