Timor-Leste officials attend international trade law training

DILI, 24 march 2026 (TATOLI) – A five-day International Trade Law training is being held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), aimed at strengthening officials’ expertise in global trade and investment law.

The training, which was opened by Director-General Elisa Maria da Silva, began on 23 march and will run until 27 march at the ministry’s Salão Nobre hall.

In her remarks, Director-General Elisa emphasized the course’s significance for Timor-Leste’s to strengthen national expertise in international trade and investment law.

During the five-day training, Timorese officials will be learning about the global trading system, including the WTO legal framework, principles of non-discrimination, market access, trade remedies, dispute settlement mechanisms, international investment agreements, investor-state dispute settlement, and ASEAN regional economic frameworks.

Elisa expressed appreciation to the Governments of Singapore and Japan for their support and commitment to enhancing Timor-Leste’s institutional readiness for full integration into ASEAN.
