DILI, 16 March 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, received a courtesy visit from the Non-Resident Ambassador of Croatia to Timor-Leste, Nebojša Koharović, on Monday at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.
The high-level dialogue centered on the current international political landscape, with both leaders reaffirming their shared commitment to preserving the global order amid ongoing conflicts in Europe and the Middle East.
During the meeting, Ambassador Koharović commended Timor-Leste’s strong democratic traditions and expressed Croatia’s enthusiastic support for the nation’s accession to ASEAN, highlighting both ASEAN and the European Union as vital anchors for global stability.
Beyond global affairs, the meeting yielded highly positive developments for bilateral relations between Dili and Zagreb. Ambassador Koharović announced that Croatia will officially open an Honorary Consulate in Dili, complementing its embassy in Jakarta, to actively boost mutual cooperation.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of exploring new, mutually beneficial opportunities across key sectors, with a specific focus on expanding ties in the economy, tourism, culture, and humanitarian assistance.
Furthermore, President Ramos-Horta and the Croatian Ambassador shared a united stance on the urgent need to protect citizens from the socio-economic impacts of global crises.
They also discussed the necessity of implementing strong social measures to shield populations from the ripple effects of international conflicts, particularly the worldwide disruptions in trade and the rising costs of food and fuel.
The fruitful meeting marks a significant step forward in strengthening the diplomatic friendship and shared vision for peace between Timor-Leste and Croatia.
