DILI, 26 March 2026 (TATOLI) — Vice Prime Minister, Minister Coordinator for Social Affairs and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing, Mariano Assanami Sabino led a youth dialogue in Dili on March 26, bringing together students and young people under the theme “Youth Empowerment with Strong Character for Peace Building and State and Nation Building.”

The specific objective of this social dialogue is to reinforce the moral values of young people, such as responsibility, integrity, solidarity and discipline, in their daily lives.

It aims to raise youth awareness of the importance of peace and social stability in order to prevent conflict and promote cooperation and fraternity.

Furthermore, it aims to encourage young people to think innovatively and contribute positively to the country’s economic, social and cultural development, while promoting a sense of nationalism and love for Timor-Leste, and a sense of responsibility for its future.

Key speakers included Vice Prime Minister Assanami; Minister of Justice Sérgio Hornai; and Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture Nélio Isaac Sarmento. Participants comprised students from UNDIL, UNPAZ, UCT, DIT and IOB, as well as representatives from youth training centers in Dili.

The dialogue forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen youth engagement in peacebuilding and the development of the state and nation.
