DILI, 25 May 2026 (TATOLI) — Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Timor-Leste from July 2–3, 2026, in a trip expected to further strengthen bilateral ties following Timor-Leste’s accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations last year.

In preparation for the visit of the Singaporean leader, the Directorate-General for Consular and Protocol Affairs (DGACP) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) held a coordination meeting on Monday in Dili.

The meeting, chaired by Josefina Carla Pompeia Tilman, focused on protocol arrangements, logistics, security coordination and other technical preparations to ensure the smooth implementation of the high-level visit.

The discussions aimed to guarantee that all ceremonial and operational aspects of the visit are properly aligned ahead of the arrival of the Singaporean prime minister.

Timor-Leste and Singapore have maintained close bilateral relations since diplomatic ties were established in 2002, shortly after Timor-Leste’s independence.

Singapore also contributed personnel to the United Nations peacekeeping mission following Timor-Leste’s 1999 independence referendum and has since expanded cooperation with Dili across sectors including education, health, agriculture, fisheries and infrastructure.

A major milestone in relations came with the opening of Singapore’s embassy in Dili in April 2024, which has helped deepen diplomatic engagement and facilitate increased investment flows.

Through the Singapore Cooperation Programme, more than 1,100 Timorese officials have received training since 2012, strengthening public sector capacity across various institutions.

Additional cooperation initiatives include the eSTARS Package launched in 2025 to support Timor-Leste’s ASEAN integration, alongside ongoing agreements in aviation, healthcare and investment promotion.
