DILI, 26 May 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta received a delegation from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace on Monday.
Led by Nobuhiro Aizawa, Dean of the ERIA School of Government, the delegation formally invited the Head of State to serve as the fourth distinguished speaker at their upcoming Leadership Lecture on June 2nd in Jakarta. The President has graciously accepted the invitation, joining an elite group of previous speakers that includes former leaders from Indonesia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
The ERIA delegation emphasized that President Ramos-Horta was specifically chosen for his profound impact on regional peace and reconciliation. They highlighted his “intellectual might” and forward-looking vision as essential contributions to the region’s stability, especially amidst current global geopolitical crises. By featuring the President, ERIA seeks to showcase Timor-Leste’s successful journey of state-building as a model of dignity and resilience for the rest of Southeast Asia.
During the meeting, the delegation noted that the President’s insights would be particularly valuable for addressing complex regional issues, such as the ongoing crisis in Myanmar. This upcoming lecture in Jakarta represents a significant opportunity to share Timor-Leste’s unique experiences in conflict resolution with a wider international audience, further cementing the nation’s role as an influential voice within the ASEAN community.
