DILI, 11 June 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste and Singapore have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with discussions focusing on the establishment of Singapore’s first resident embassy in Dili and expanded cooperation in human resource development.

Vice-Minister and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jesuína Maria Ferreira Gomes received Singapore’s Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Teo Lay Cheng, for a courtesy meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), where both sides reviewed progress on the planned diplomatic mission.

The discussions centred on preparations for the establishment of the Embassy of Singapore in Timor-Leste, including arrangements for land allocation and other logistical matters required for the mission’s future operation.

The Vice-Minister reaffirmed the Government of Timor-Leste’s support for the establishment of Singapore’s first resident diplomatic mission in the country.

The Ambassador also presented a proposal for capacity-building and professional training programmes for Timorese government officials.

The Vice-Minister welcomed the initiative and highlighted the importance of human resource development and institutional strengthening.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between Timor-Leste and Singapore.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts symbolizing the friendship and partnership between the two countries.
