DÍLI, 16 July 2026 (TATOLI) – The National Director of Timor-Leste’s Scientific Criminal Investigation Police (PCIC), Vicente Fernandes, met with a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on migration management and combat transnational crime.
The courtesy meeting took place on Thursday 16 at the PCIC’s office in Dili.
Fernandes was accompanied by members of his team, while the IOM delegation included representatives from its Dili mission and its regional office in Canberra, Australia.
The discussions focused on enhancing institutional cooperation to address emerging migration challenges affecting Timor-Leste and the wider region.
Both sides explored opportunities to develop joint strategies and support government priorities in key areas, including promoting safe and regular migration pathways, strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking through operational information sharing, and protecting Timorese citizens abroad and migrants residing in Timor-Leste.
Fernandes and the IOM representatives reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in migration governance and strengthening coordinated efforts against transnational organized crime.
The meeting highlights the continued partnership between PCIC and IOM in improving coordination between national institutions and international partners to address complex migration and security challenges.
