Timor-Leste reaffirms commitment to strengthening g7+ solidarity, collective agency and homegrown solutions
DÍLI, 25 September 2026 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, participated in the g7+ High-Level Summit on “Charting Concrete Mechanisms for Stability, Self-Reliance, and Resilience,” held on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The Summit focused on translating political commitments into practical mechanisms for peace, resilient development and collective self-reliance.
The Summit was opened by Rick Nelson Houenipwela, Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands and Chair of the g7+, who emphasized stronger collective action and practical solutions.
Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone and g7+ Eminent Person, highlighted dialogue, reconciliation, national ownership and preventive engagement as foundations for sustainable peace.
In his intervention, Minister Bendito reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s commitment to strengthening g7+ solidarity, collective agency and homegrown solutions.
The Minister also highlighted three priorities: establishing a structured peer-to-peer mechanism for dialogue and mediation, strengthening the Rapid Response Advisory Center, and leveraging the g7+ diplomatic footprint for unified advocacy within multilateral institutions.
Minister Bendito underscored that solidarity and cooperation remain essential to advancing lasting peace, resilience and sustainable development across g7+ countries.
