DILI, 16 August 2021 (TATOLI)-Timor-Leste receives another 168,000 doses of AZ vaccine from the Government of Japan through its Embassy in Timor Leste.
The vaccine was handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, Kinefuchi Masami to the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Pantai Kelapa today.
Ambassador Kinefuchi Masami said it is a great pleasure for him to join this handed-over ceremony.
“I have especially honored to hand over these vaccines to the Prime Minister HE General Taur Matan Ruak on behalf of the Japanese Prime Minister Mr, Suga and all Japanese people. The Japanese government has provided various assistance to support your fight Against COViD -19,” Ambassador Masami said during the ceremony.
Ambassador Masami said this is a part of what has been promised by the Japanese Prime Minister when joined the COVAX vaccine summit and GAVI in recent June.
“This is part of what our Prime Minister promised in June when convened COVAX vaccine Summit with GAVI. I hope this additional provision of Vaccines will contribute to eliminating COVID -19 Pandemic situation in this country,” he said.
In addition, Japan has provided various assistance for COVID -19 response and is committed to providing more than 16 million USD of assistance in total for measures Against COVID -19 in Timor Leste.
Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak on behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste and the people of Timor Leste thank the Government of Japan for the support been provided including 168,000 doses of AZ vaccine that Timor-Leste receives today.
“I believe that with 168,000 doses of Vaccine, will help TL to cover 80% of its population since 42 % of Timorese people already get the vaccine,” PM said.
