DILI, 24 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste reports the highest number of new COVID-19 cases in a single day since the outbreak in the country.
The Integrated Crisis Management Center (SIJK), today, reports 532 new cases, two deaths, 97 recoveries, and the active cases were 3.816.
Of the new cases, 298 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 90 in Baucau, 75 in Covalima, 15 in Bobonaro, 12 each Liquica and Manufahi, nine in Ainaro, seven in RAEOA, six in Viqueque, four in Lautem, three in Manatuto, and one in Ermera.
The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said 38 percent of today’s cases were symptomatic.
He said of today’s cases, 393 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 122 cases under 20 and 17 elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 335 men and 197 women.
Araujo informed that 69 Covid-19 cases had been admitted to Vera Cruz Isolation Center for intensive treatment, with 20 people in critical condition, four of whom required ventilation.
In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 1388 PCR tests, including 122 sentinel surveillance tests, 412 through contact tracing, 315 via random screening, 248 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 238 for the international travel authorization, and five in quarantines.
Today, SIJK registered two more deaths in Timor-Leste.
The first deceased was a woman in his 30s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 22 and admitted to the Lahane Hospital on the same day. She passed away today at around 05.10 am local time due to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
Another deceased was a man in his late 60s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 23 and admitted to the Lahane Hospital at the same day. She passed away today at around 03.20.pm local time due to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 21.7 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 51.5, Covalima 31.3, Manufahi 26.2, Baucau 17.6, Ainaro 10.2, Manatuto 8.8, and RAEOA 8.1.
The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the SIJK’s records showed cases are again mounted in Dili, Ermera, and several municipalities.
Health authorities had warned that Delta variant may have already spread in the communities, calling on citizens over 18 to get vaccinated: “Vaccination is the only way to combat the Covid-19.”
There has been a total of 14.935 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 11.068 recoveries, active cases were 3.816 and 51 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.
In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 49.1 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 23.0 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
